Phonics & Journal: "oo" sound

Today we explored the "oo" sound. We watched a Turtle Diary video and discovered words that have the "oo" sound.

After, students wrote a list of words that contain "oo"

Math: Place Value

Students are exploring counting by 10's and 1's. We used snap cubes to make groups of 10 and counted by 1's for the left overs.

Unit of Inquiry: Space

Students learned about the planets Mercury and Venus. We watched a video and read book about the two planet. Students discovered that Mercury is the closest planet to the sun. Venus is the 2nd planet closest to the sun and is the closest planet to earth!

After, students created the planets out of crafts.

Tuesday, February 27

Phonics

Students continued to explore the letter/sound V.

We watched Jack hartmann and discovered more words that contain the V sound. After, students worked on a worksheet to practice writing the letter V and also used play dough to create the letter. 

After phonics, students completed a writing assessment and wrote about their family.

Math: Place Value

We started a new unit in math today! Students are learning about place value. Students used 10 frames to estimate numbers over 10. Students discovered how to count by 10's

Unit of Inquiry: Space

Students were introduced to the concept of the sun. We watched a short video about the sun and talked about the importance of the sun. After, students made a craft using paper plates.

Students explored the sound, song and words for the letter v. We watched bounce patrol and brainstormed words together!

Today we learned about space ships! We watched a video to learn more about space ships.

The students really enjoyed watching this clip.

After, students created their own rocket ship!
